With the introduction of iOS 17, the tech giant gave your iPhone a fun function as users wait for word on the next iOS 18 upgrade. In September, Apple included crossword puzzles to the News app with that update.
According to a research published in the Archives of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, crossword puzzles can enhance one’s confidence while also increasing one’s vocabulary and stimulating one’s cognitive skills.
You must have a $13 monthly membership to Apple News Plus in order to unlock crossword puzzles in the News app.
You may test out Apple News Plus for free for a month, or you can purchase an iPhone, iPad, or Mac and receive the service for free for three months. The $38/month Apple One Premier package, which also includes Apple TV Plus and Apple Arcade, includes a subscription to Apple News Plus.
Here’s how Apple News Plus subscribers may get daily crossword puzzles.

1. Launch the Apple News application.
2. In the menu at the bottom of your screen, select Following.
3. Press the Puzzle button.

The most recent crossword puzzles for the week are available. Additionally, there are options for Crossword and Crossword Mini, which are smaller crossword puzzles organised in a 5×5 grid, across the top of the page. When you choose one of these alternatives, the app will take you to the most recent puzzles for that selection.
Crossword puzzles may also be found by selecting Apple News > Today and scrolling down until you find Latest Puzzles, but this option was located very deep down my Today page.
How to solve the problems
There are two methods to solve puzzles once you’ve chosen one to play: list view and grid view. By default, a classic crossword puzzle arrangement called grid view will be displayed.
The entire grid is visible, and tapping a square will reveal a hint beneath the puzzle. Additionally, you may press a square twice or the clue itself to swap between vertical and horizontal clues.
Instead of using the conventional crossword puzzle grid, list view displays all of the clues and the number of letters in each solution in a list style. When you are in a puzzle, press the bulleted list symbol in the upper left corner of your screen to bring up the list view.
Letters from other clues start to appear where the clues cross on the grid as you type letters in the list view. List view still seems difficult to me, but I’m not particularly good at crosswords anyhow.
What is the number of puzzles?
Every day, a crossword and a crossword mini are added to the puzzle collection. You may also explore a collection of previous crossword puzzles. After completing the aforementioned procedures, select Crossword or Crossword Mini. The Archive should then appear beneath the Latest Puzzles. Archive contains the riddles from the previous month, but you may access problems from earlier months by tapping the arrow next to Archive.
