Getting off Facebook? Here’s how to take your photos, posts, notes and events with you

Do you feel prepared to remove Facebook? Or do you just want to ensure that all of your years’ worth of images, videos, posts, notes, and events are securely stored somewhere you can access them? The good news is that Facebook allows you to easily move all of your important data off the site to other platforms.

Facebook currently lets you transfer photographs and videos to Google photographs, Dropbox, Backblaze, and Koofr, as well as download all of your data in a ZIP file, including ad-targeting data the site gathers about you. Additionally, as of August, you may move your articles, notes, images, and events straight from the website to Google Calendar, Google Docs, Blogger, WordPress.com, and Photobucket. According to Facebook, additional transfer locations and data kinds will be added in the future.

According to CNET’s Queenie Wong, Facebook and digital firms like Amazon and Google have been accused by politicians and regulators of using monopolistic power to unlawfully repress their rivals. This is why the company has expanded its Transfer Your Information tool. People find it difficult to transfer their information to other platforms, which keeps them on Facebook, according to lawsuits brought against the social media company last year.

Here’s how to transmit your images, videos, posts, notes, and events to other platforms using Facebook’s Transfer Your Information feature. Whether you are using the mobile app or a browser to access Facebook, these methods are pretty much the same.

How to move your Facebook events, notes, posts, videos, and images

To transfer your images, videos, articles, and notes to websites like Google Docs and WordPress.com, use Facebook’s recently revamped transfer tool.
Facebook

1. Click the down arrow in the upper right corner of Facebook on a desktop computer. Select Your Facebook Information under Settings & Privacy > Settings.

2. Reenter your Facebook password after selecting Transfer a Copy of Your Information.

3. Select the platform to which you want to move your data from the drop-down option. Click “Next step.”

4. Depending on the platform you choose, pick what you want to move: notes, videos, posts, or images. You may choose to relocate all of them or only those from a certain album or time frame. Click “Next step.”

5. Select “Connect” to begin the transfer. Choose Confirm Transfer after logging into the provider you have chosen to transfer your data to. (Facebook cautions that the rules and practices of that service will govern how they utilize your information after the transfer.)

Now that you have a copy of those priceless Facebook postings, you may use them whatever you choose.
